Lemar Engineering Consultants (West Des Moines, Iowa), who assists
Hy-Vee in their UST compliance efforts, has seen a 30 percent to 40 percent increase in the number of service assistance calls
received from Hy-Vee staff since classroom training began in April 2008. These calls pertain to questions related to environmental
compliance, environmental protection, leak detection alarms, and spill/overfill responses, etc. This higher incidence of calls
indicates the Hy-Vee UST Operator Training Program is clearly helping us develop a more engaged and aware workforce.
The team at Lemar did an excellent job of taking complex content and presenting it in an easy to understand and pleasant format. The full-color photos and interactive quizzes at the end of each chapter help to reinforce learning goals as does the spill prevention emergency response poster developed for us. Undoubtedly, Lemar's expertise with state and federal regulations and familiarity with UST equipment helped to ensure a product that has exceeded our expectations.
