The
Iowa Department of Natural Resources (IDNR) awarded a Solid Waste Alternatives
Program (SWAP) grant to the project team of Barker Lemar Engineering
Consultants, Mowry Strategies, Fultz Design, and the Great River Regional Waste
Authority to develop a campaign to promote alternative management practices to
burning or burying of organic waste.
In
Iowa
, a majority of organic waste is currently burned as the preferred
disposal method either on a regular basis and/or to manage material generated
from a storm event.
The
information on this website has been established to create a tool kit for
debris managers, city public works officials, and other decision makers that
must manage organic materials. The website provides examples of organic waste
management methods that promote alternatives to burning.
If
you have materials that you would like to include on this website (i.e.
ordinances, contracts, education materials, etc.) please e-mail Jeff Phillips (
jphillips@barkerlemar.com).
Efforts will be made to review and post the information in a timely fashion.
