Barker Lemar Engineering Consultants was incorporated as Barker Environmental Services (BES) in July, 1995. (Known for their professional engineering services). BES was organized with a focus to solid waste engineering services. It was the belief of its founder, Mike Barker, President, that solid waste clients required a high level of client-consultant interaction and a good value for their money. With that in mind, Mike Barker established a benchmark and company philosophy that was committed to relationship building and the use of leading edge technologies to produce innovative and economically sound solutions to the challenges encountered performing engineering services. Later in 1995, Mike Barker and Tracy Lemar, Vice President, formed a partnership. Tracy brought his reputation for creative and innovative engineering skills and his valued experience in the assessment, design and remediation of underground storage tanks to the organization. As a result, BES secured over $200,000 in contracts its first year. Tim Buelow, Principal Engineer, joined BES in 1997. Again Tim contributed greatly to the organization in both his excellent professional reputation and client following. BES was fortunate as well to have the opportunity to successfully recruit some of the area's best engineers, geologists, environmental scientists, technicians and field staff to expand their list of engineering services.
Each year up to and including today the organization has grown revenues. Between the years of 1998 and 2000 BES underwent significant changes and growth in response to the growing demands of its client base. Drilling services, civil engineering services, land surveying services, information technology services and graphic design services were added. Field services, remediation services and project management teams were all expanded to insure continued support of the underlying philosophies that the company contributes to its success – strong client relationships and leading edge technologies.
Today, we have a new look and a new name, Barker Lemar Engineering Consultants, and have offices in Des Moines and St. Louis. Our staff is among the best and brightest in the industry and our customer base is as diverse as many of our engineering services. We have assisted hundreds of clients in the industrial, commercial and government sectors with start-to-finish engineering services and products. Although we have grown tremendously, we remain committed to our founding principals: That clients demand and deserve an interactive relationship, expect us to utilize technologies that will solve problems and save them money; and to treat them and their projects uniquely and with respect.
